This is AWESOME! Okay, I love the choice of colors. You really gave this an 'underwater' feel by using lots of blue! I also enjoy the fact that you avoided using ink lines.. you really pushed your values and shapes without the need for inking. :3
Now if it is all right, I'm going to give you a couple of suggestions for making this seem even more like an underwater scene.
Bubbles. That's pretty much the staple for create illustrations depicting aquatic scenes. But there's a lot more to it than just silly bubbles. : )
Lighting and how it moves within the unique environment. There's a lot of ripples.. And since this creature seems to have a bioluminescent (apologies for the wrong spelling) thing going on, you could have painting in rays escaping and flicking through the surrounding water.
Speaking of ripples, this would cause a distortion here and there of the aquatic critter. Just a few well-placed 'smudges' as it were, so as not to cover up the lovely detail.
Next.. the sun, filtered through the water. It would be interesting to see it catch the silhouetted dolphins up there, making them (and part of the monster's head) stand out even more so. The light, of course would appear 'cloudy'. Ah! I found a GOOD reference for what I mean: http://k53.pbase.com/o6/52/687752/1/83004504.BllYnlOe.back.jpg
At the top of this image, where the white is. I think that looks beautiful and would have made this piece even more interesting. : )
I think that's about everything. I actually wasn't 100% sure when I first saw this, if the monster was meant to be under-water or not, because it looks a bit like clouds were painted around him. So I thought maybe it was one of those things where aquatic animals were painted as though they were swimming through the sky. Which is also interesting, IMHO.
Sorry for the rambling, here and there. Hope this comment is helpful!

I love the way you colored this and the design of the creature, though I guess if it's a trade it's prolly not your design. But anyway, biolights are pretty *_*
